Everett Microdermabrasion Revealed!

Everett MicrodermabrasionSuffering from the scars of adolescent acne? Want to remove those unsightly age spots? The perfect non-surgical solution to any skin imperfections is Everett Microdermabrasion! This deep exfoliation will leave your skin fresh and smooth.

How is Microdermabrasion Performed?

After cleansing your skin with a special cleansing gel, your esthetician uses a hand-held device that ‘sand-blasts’ your skin with aluminum oxide crystals. As the tube on the hand-held wand is pressed against your skin, the aluminum oxide crystals flow through the tube. The tube also removes the exfoliated skin cells from your skin.

To assure a consistent finish, the esthetician slowly moves the wand across your entire face. It is essential that the entire face is exfoliated, not just the affected areas. Following microdermabrasion, your skin will be coated with a sun block cream. You can return to normal activity immediately following the treatment. It is crucial that you apply the appropriate protection (nourishment and sunblock) to your skin to avoid sun damage.

Is Microdermabrasion the Same as Dermabrasion?

While the desired results are similar, the procedures are quite different. Dermabrasion, often requires an anesthetic (either local or general) and can last as long as 2-hours. Visible improvement of deep wrinkles, lines and scars as well as hyper-pigmentation can be achieved with dermabrasion. Leaving the skin extremely sensitive, red and swollen, it can take as long as 10-days to completely heal.

Microdermabrasion, on the other hand, is not nearly as invasive as dermabrasion, and can be performed at LeVisage Wellness Center and Day Spa by an esthetician. While  not as deep as dermabrasion, microdermabrasion often must be repeated a number of times to achieve desired results. Recovery is virtually immediate, and with proper protection, you can return to normal routine the same day.

How Many Sessions are Required?

Depending on the severity of the condition of your skin, your esthetician will likely recommend 6-10 sessions to realize the full benefits of microdermabrasion. A healing period of at least 2 weeks is required between each session. To retain the effects of your sessions, you may find that follow-up sessions every 2-4 months are necessary.

Is any Special Preparation Necessary?

While there are no special pre-treatment is required, it is best that you cleanse your face thoroughly just before your appointment. Do not apply any moisturizers or makeup prior to your dermabrasion session. Additionally, you may be advised to discontinue taking:

  • Aspirin based medications
  • Retin-A
  • Renova
  • Differen
  • Glycolic Acid Products
It is strongly recommended that you avoid tanning (sunbathing) and waxing of the areas to be treated at least 1 week prior to your session. Finally, if possible, to improve blood flow to the treated area, stop smoking for at least 1 week prior to treatment.
